About
Facts Not Fear ICT

Facts Not Fear ICT is a communication and outreach initiative committed to lessening the impact of COVID-19 in Wichita’s minority communities. Nationally and locally, minority communities have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. This campaign strives to improve health literacy, address health disparities and positively impact health outcomes among Black/African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, Native American and other vulnerable communities.

Through marketing efforts, community outreach, data gathering, and more, this initiative connects members of Wichita’s minority communities to vital information and resources such as food access, COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, housing, mental health services, and other important supports to protect and save lives.

The Facts Not Fear ICT initiative is proud to include the voices of minority community members, leaders, health professionals, business owners, and influencers to create and disseminate culturally-relevant messaging. Facts Not Fear ICT will ensure adequate access to culturally-sensitive health information.

To ensure they are best served, each minority population has dedicated community facilitators tasked with connecting them to health education material and resources, while also engaging minority residents in community feedback sessions to help guide the work of these efforts. Additionally, the initiative is steered by a local Advisory Council made up of healthcare leaders, nonprofit representatives, and community residents to assist in guiding the campaign.

This initiative is a collaboration between the City of Wichita and Community Connections Consulting Services, LLC and funded with $4M from the “Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to Covid-19” grant. The grant is administered through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health (OMH). The OMH awarded $250 million in grants to 73 local governments as part of a two-year initiative to identify and implement best practices for improving health literacy to enhance Covid-19 vaccination and other mitigation practices among underserved populations.
